Dissent

¡Hola! Everybody...
Enjoy the holiday, people...

-=[ Fascism ]=-
When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.
-- Upton Sinclair

The streets of our country are in turmoil. The universities are filled with students rebelling and rioting. Communists are seeking to destroy our country. Russia is threatening us with her might, and the Republic is in danger. Yes -- danger from within and without. We need law and order! Without it our nation cannot survive.

-- [extra points for those who can correctly cite the source of this quote]

So I shamelessly say no, I want him to fail, if his agenda is a far-left collectivism, some people say socialism, as a conservative heartfelt, deeply, why would I want socialism to succeed?”

-- Rush Limbaugh in an interview with Sean Hannity, January 21, 2009

Nuff said...

In discussing activism, the noted historian, Howard Zinn noted:

When Reagan announced the blockade of Nicaragua, 550 of us sat in at the federal building in Boston to protest, and were arrested. It seemed too big a group of dissidents to deal with, and charges were dropped. The official complaint against was: "Failure to Quit." That is, surely, the critical fact about the continuing movement for human rights here and all over the world.

  1. No rich person would want Socialism to succeed - after all it would restrict their ability to exploit our world and the people in it. Ordinary people who are inclined to believe in the things people like Rush Limbaugh say are being sucked in.

On another post I heard Lyndon Johnson speak (1964) - he said, "the great society is a place where every child can buy knowledge to enrich his mind..." Key word BUY. No free ride for any kid in the good old US it seems.

  2. Bruja: some good points made there. And the insight that even human rights are framed in economic terms is key.

the sad thing is that, as misguided as it is, they were at least giving lip service to a "Great Society." even that doesn't exist today.
